"The Loucks Smoke has allowed me to cut through for once, in
what is usually a muddy situation. The tone, clarity and control of
this amp is everything I have ever wanted. I feel now I can crank up
the amp without feeling like I'm shredding people's ears apart. There
is much devastation to be made with this beast of a head."

"I am continually impressed with the range of tones the Loucks can spit out. The clean sounds can cut through diamonds, especially at high volume, while the overdrive channel dials up everything from white-hot crunch to subtle, fresh-from-the-oven gains - while never sacrificing clarity or articulation. The Loucks harkens back to a simpler era of amplifiers, and in a sea of lifeless, cookie-cutter guitar sounds, I'm happy to have Verellen Amplifiers behind me."

"The Spaldo combo comes with all the bells and whistles: a Volume knob and a Tone knob. A super warm clean tone and overdriven, it sounds like the best parts of a Vox, Marshall, Hiwatt and Orange. It handles fuzz, overdrive and delay pedals beautifully. Unbelievable recording amp and at 15 watts of Class A deliciousness, great for small to medium sized venues. I fucking love this amp!!!"

"I've never loved a guitar amplifier as much as my Verellen Custom Head. From quiet to roaring loud this beautiful piece of work holds rock solid no matter what you play through it. I am proud to have one of the first few in production and cannot wait to get my hands on my next Verellen "Coop" 50watt. Ben has put some serious thought and love into the product and stands by every piece created all the way, taking care of you until you're happy. Trust me, you'll only come back for more. I've also demoed the Meat Smoke and i would choose that head over any Sunn Model T, SVT Classic, or Marshall Superbass any day. That amplifier will destroy anything in it's path and crush minds with guitar or bass. Verellen Amplifiers and Cabs were created to last and only satisfy your every need. I don't care to play anything else."

"I am totally satisfied with my meat smoke. So much so, that I'm not sure I'll ever need another amp again. The sounds that come from my Verellen amp are like nothing else. Compared to my old solid state amp, I feel like the tone and volume knobs on my meat smoke head actually do something, and I can really sculpt the noise. Getting this amp opens me up to all kinds of new droning metal because I can now appreciate just ringing frequency, which I just couldnt do before."

"I'm blown away by the meat smoke!!!! ....this bass head is the best sounding bass head i've ever played through. Unlike many of the other top of the line heads that i've owned and played through, the meat smoke is transparent and powerful. It's got tons of headroom and punch not to mention versatility...everthing from latin, jazz, reggae, metal and what ever else is out there this head can more than hang!
Ben, thank you, i'm looking forward to the cool new sounds you'll be developing in the future..Peace!"

"This is hands down the most user-friendly amp I've ever owned. Simple and loud. I've spent hours dialing it in and I'm consistently blown away with how clear and bright the tone is, with some menacing overdrive mixed in. It breaks up perfectly when I want it to, and it holds a clean, clear tone when need it to mellow out. The range of tones I've been able to get is amazing, but the simplicity of the amp is it's key. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are obvious just by looking at Loucks, but they become even more apparent when you plug it in.
Those over-engineered, processed, mass-produced amps have nothing to offer me or our band. Most people are confused as to what a "heavy" guitar sound really is. For us, it's lots of volume with excellent depth and size. True heavy guitar tones were perfected 40 years ago and they haven't been much improved upon since. EL34 tubes, proven circuitry, and good construction. Verellen took classic guitar amplification and polished it and made it his own with Loucks. And the customer service is second to none."

Deadman, At All Times
"In both bands I am a part of, I felt a nagging desire to set us up with formidable tube amps. There is something ...ethereal about tube tone. It has a presence that you really cannot replicate with a solid state head. Tube tone is, to an extent, felt more than heard. I needed to achieve this. After years of research, I decided to contact Ben. After a couple of quick messages back and forth via the web, he begun building my amp, and within a month's time, I was dangerously and clumsily carrying the enormous thing into my house to open excitedly, as though it were Christmas day.
I must congratulate Ben for putting together the Meat Smoke’s circuit. He has taken some of the most renowned tube bass amp circuits, and bred a true beast of an amp. Fans of Matamp bass heads, or Ampeg SVTs would be impressed. This thing is the most versatile bass head I’ve ever played through. There’s plenty of gain, and just as much clean tone. I think the thing that has hit me the hardest about it is that when you have it turned up all the way it actually makes you feel tired after maybe ten minutes of playing it (don’t ever do that without earplugs. It hurts to play it at 12 oclock without earplugs in). There aren’t any bad sounding settings on this amp, and it’s worth every penny, especially considering the amps that can compete with it cost almost twice as much, and are far more difficult to get a hold of. MEAT SMOKE!!!"

AKIMBO
"About two years ago, I was working in a guitar shop when Ben came in and said, "I'm starting an amp company." I was pretty skeptical. A year later, he started bringing his amps into the shop. Frankly, I was amazed that he was turning out such great sounding, great looking, well-made stuff.
A lot of my friends -- musicians I admire -- started buying his amps. Everyone was buying 'em. Jon, the bass player in Akimbo got a great sounding "Higher Watt" to play guitar on. I decided it was time to get one.
I have some great "loud" amps for Akimbo, and I'm really happy with them. But I'd been wanting something pretty. I played an old blackface Deluxe a long time ago and I never forgot the way it sounded. I asked Ben to build me an amp like that. We talked a lot and he steered me toward a head and 2x12" setup, rather than a 2x10" combo -- it wound up being a good call. It's a 50-watter, with two 6L6's. He was stoked to give me exactly what I wanted, building in tube-driven tremolo and reverb and a tube rectifier. And I made a few special cosmetic demands too. The natural birch boxes with oxblood grille cloth look so good. I grin every time I walk into the practice room.
It's the most beautiful sounding amp I've ever owned -- maybe even ever played. It FEELS good to play. It records really well, nomatter what tone I dial-in -- and there's a fuckin' boatload of tones in there. I've compared it to a couple old Fenders. It doesn't sound exactly like one... It gets a bit dirtier when you crank it, and the reverb and tremolo can get more intense than an old Fender. The tone knobs seem to do more too. And it's got top quality caps, resistors, and jacks and junk so it's not gonna break anytime soon. I think I love it more than I'd love one of those.
If you can afford it, you should have Ben make you an amp. It's gonna be YOUR amp, and it's gonna sound different, 'cause Ben built you exactly what you wanted."

"This amp looks and sounds amazing. It's a Coop with a modified
overdrive, which is sick. 50 watts and louder than I'll ever need it
to be. And we don't play quietly. I was considering getting an Orange
or Mesa, but decided to go with this. I couldn't be happier. It's got
great tube distortion, sweet spring reverb, and overall, it's very
versatile."

"The Louks is a monster! Within the first few minutes of playing it I found the guitar tone I've been looking for for years, and the level of service that Ben provides with it is unmatched... I doubt many people have had a Marshall tech show up at their practice space an hour before a show to help troubleshoot! I highly recommend this to any guitarist looking for loud balls, a unique guitar sound and a product fully backed by its maker."

"When Ben first told me that he was going to begin building amps, I wanted to be the first in line to get my hands on one. As I suspected, the custom 2x10 combo that Ben built for me was and still is the greatest investment in music I have ever made. The tone (and volume!) on this beast is unmatched. This amp eats other amps for breakfast."

"My Verellen amplifier is, by far, the best piece of equipment I've purchased. Not only does the amp have incredible tone and texture when turned up, it also retains that same depth when turned down for home recording projects. This is not the case for alot of amps, in my experience. Most thin out at lower volumes which makes writing less fun when working at home. Also, not only does my own crappy guitar sound great through it (read; Danelectro-good crappy!) but my piano also sounds great as well and the natural overdrive gives it a more interesting character. I cannot recommend Verellen amplifiers enough and I get alot of compliments on the obvious craftmanship that goes into their work. Thank you so much Ben, everyone should be so lucky to have one!"

"I contacted Ben and asked if team Verellen could make a 200 Watt Hiwatt CP 103 clone, with a little more of a kick on the Overdrive. This was to be my first Tube driven amplifier, and I was stoked to hear it. The moment it got to Chicago I was in awe in how beatiful the amp was visually, from the green power jewel, to the chicken beak volume knobs. I rushed to my bands practice space and we went at it! Hands down the loudest Amp I've ever played out of. I played a show that same night with it, and it just sounded like evertything I wanted it to.This amp is reall thick, disgustingly rich, and the notal clarity is very audible, even as the amps overdrive is pushed to the limits. After a week on the Road, the amp held up the riggors of that crammed van environemt, and the sound maintained show after show. Very satisfied." Point to point wiring is where its at these days if you want to get an amp made with love. These guys definitely love what they do, and thus they enable me to do what i love. Thanks gentlemen. Team Verellen are the Popes of Tone Town. "

"Even animals love Verellens.
When I asked Ben to make me an amp resembling a Vox AC30, I had no idea how much further the sound could be taken. Raw, beefy tone with lows for days and piercing highs, and the addition of spring reverb, this quarter stack is beyond my wildest amp dreams. 30 watts of class A power never sounded so clean, so mean, or so pristene."

"My Verellen amplifier is its own deity. It reminds me that I will die someday and be shit out by worms. When you turn that fucker on it’s like hot, scalding, half & half shooting through a fire hose. It will piss off everyone in your band that doesn’t have one. You will cut their tone into pieces and then they’ll spend an illogical amount of time fucking with their knobs trying to balance shit out, wondering why they sound crappy all of a sudden. Now I know how Ripley felt when she backhanded that alien bitch queen into space with a giant robot suit."

"I bought the Loucks without testing it, but now, i do not regret it at all! Thus, it is the first time that I do not have the impression to face an amp filled with electronics. Indeed, the overdrive is very natural and characteristic. I used to
play guitar with a violin bow and Loucks is perfect for this! To conclude, every notes are discernible even with a hight overdrive. I'm very satisfied!"

"I called Ben and told him I wanted an amp with vintage tube tone with a little more modern overdrive, I wanted it to be extremely loud and to have tons of low end, and I got exactly what I wanted. The loudest amp I've ever owned, with the most natural overdrive without the typical thin, high gain. This amp is thick, rich, and full, and even pushing the overdrive, every note is audible. Very satisfied."

Often boutique amps (that are not uber metal high gain types) are just too dainty. Not my Verellen amps. My Spaldo and Coop each have tremendous tone, clarity and girth depending on what I need. While excessive volume is not
always necessary for studio work, these amps are LOUD and best of all, have headroom for days. His 4x12 handles more low end than any 4x12 I have owned. Which will be extremely helpful with some of the down tuned bands I work with.
These amps have been invaluable additions to my recording studio. I am sure I will own a Louckes and a Meatsmoke soon enough."

I speak in calculus
"Being the lone guitarist in a band challenges me to fill the void of the non-existent second guitar. I did some research trying to find the right guitar cabinet to expand my live rig from a single cabinet to a pair of 4x12's, and thats when I found Verellen. From the second this cabinet arrived, I knew it was gonna be incredible. I could tell it was well built, and the birch looks amazing on it. This cab puts out an awesome low end that is just right, and it has the best midrange punch I've heard from a 4x12 cab yet. On top of that, my clean's shine through crystal clear. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Ben, you are the man!"

"The head and cabinet that Ben built for me based upon the '59 Bassman is awesome for two reasons.
Firstly, it's a beautiful, point-to-point wired, high-quality amp of top-notch components built by a guy and his associates who truly love amps, plainly put. From the little touches like dovetailed joinery, spring reverb, the classy handles, to sheer simplicity of function, this is an amp built by a crew that knows and loves what they're doing.
Secondly, there is the pure tone of it. Sound is faithful to the original but with a different character of its own altogether, the tubes break earlier and with serious power. And when I wasn't 100% satisfied with the way it sounded at first, sheerly a matter of indecisiveness on my part, Ben was eager and willing to make any changes at no cost whatsoever. That's why Verellen is a company to pay attention to. It's like the thought pattern and circuits designed to be improved upon behind the Fullerton-era amps revisited. These folks understand not only how to build amplifiers that are themselves instruments, but also how to run a small business with respect to both the product and the customer. People talk about the genius of certain amplification greats who needn't be named for their circuitry and innovation, and Ben understands those things as well as the best of them. He is taking circuits that are tested by time and adding the extra touches that only someone who knows amps this well can do, but in addition to that, you can tell that he is doing this cause he loves it and wants to improve and build upon the classics to make something unique and, well, totally awesome.
Needless to say, highly recommended." |
